Sclerotherapy

Used to eradicate spider veins and thread veins
Read moreBook

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is used to close smaller varicose veins, spider veins and thread veins by injecting them with sclerosant (sclerosant is a dedicated medical solution used to irritate the lining of the vein) using a very fine needle. This causes the vein to shrink and close. The blood will stop flowing through the vein. Then, over a period of 3-6 weeks the residue is absorbed by the body’s natural immune system.

How fast should I see the results?

Sclerotherapy itself takes around 30 minutes and is followed by a period of 3 weeks when the patient needs to wear compression stockings. At first the treated veins will look worse than before the procedure but with time the veins will start to fade away. Depending on the size of the vein treated, the vein will completely fade away with 3-6 weeks.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime and the patient can return to normal daily activities on the same day. It is recommended to avoid any strenuous physical activities for the first 72 hours after the procedure.
