What is radiofrequency ablation?<\/h2>\n

Radiofrequency ablation (also known as ClosureFast™ procedure) is a minimally invasive internationally acknowledged endovenous treatment of varicose veins with a ClosureFast catheter. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes. ClosureFast catheter is connected to a generator which closes the vein with local heating and directs the blood to flow through healthy veins. The patient is allowed to leave the clinic right after the procedure.<\/p>\n

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia – no general anaesthesia is used.

What happens during ClosureFast™ procedure?<\/h2>\n

Before the procedure the vein needing treatment is marked under ultrasound guidance. Visible varicosities may also be marked if phlebectomy is planned.<\/p>\n

To freeze the skin a small injection is used and the vein is cannulated just below the knee. Through the cannula ClosureFast catheter is inserted up to required height. The correct position of the probe is checked with ultrasound and further local anaesthetic will be injected around the vein again guided by ultrasound. This is called t<\/em>umescent anesthesia<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The generator then creates heat energy to seal the vein up from inside. This takes just a few minutes. The patient should not feel anything during the treatment. Once the vein has been sealed, the probe is removed.<\/p>\n

Radiofrequency ablation can be combined with simultaneous adjuncts. Occasionally varicose veins that have been marked by the surgeon prior to the procedure may be removed through small incisions (phlebectomies). These small incisions to not require sutures.

Getting up after radiofrequency ablation<\/h2>\n

Recovery after radiofrequency ablation is short. The patient can return to usual daily activities on the same day.
